Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge most popular browser among user from all over world. These are both very fast browsers. Obviously, Chrome openly beats Edge browser in the Kraken and Jetstream benchmarks, but it's not enough to recognize in day-to-day use. Microsoft Edge does have one significant performance advantage over Chrome: Memory usage. In essence, Edge uses fewer resources.

How Chrome and Edge compare

Edge WebKit – WebKit is Google Chrome's rendering engine. There's no support for extensions (at the time of this writing), so you're on your own there. Google also has an awesome Chrome Extension that allows you to control just about every aspect of the browser. This includes tweaking search engine settings to tailor results to your needs, turning off the history/captchas features, changing the default search engine, and much more.

 

Speed

Chrome is quite fast when it comes to opening tabs, switching between them, and so forth. Chrome also has one of the best scrolling performance in the entire mobile browser category. Edge is a whole different animal. Overall, Edge is a much more limited experience that requires more tweaking to get up to speed. On top of this, it's noticeably slower in use and tab switching compared to Chrome. So what gives? Speed issues don't just appear in Edge. Chrome has speed issues too. In truth, there's no easy answer to this question, which leads to a somewhat difficult situation. Google Chrome is easily one of the best web browsers available today. However, it's still not the best. Chrome is faster than Edge but this isn't significant enough to say that Edge is better than Chrome in a performance sense. Both browsers are excellent in the short term, but Edge is significantly faster than Chrome in the long term. If Edge's speed issues can be fixed, this could put Edge over the top.
